About

Hi there, I’m Alex Loddengaard. I live in San Francisco and I’m doing a startup called TownSquared, Inc. with my good friend Eric. As far as software goes, I would consider myself a specialist in big data and general scalability. But I’m more of a generalist, having worked with Hadoop, Rails, Django and Android.

Previously I built an Android app called FoneDoktor as a consultant. And before that I worked in product marketing at Atlassian. Prior to Atlassian I was a software engineer, support engineer, consultant, and trainer at Cloudera, spending all my time on Hadoop.

I spend a lot of time on my bike, except during the winter when I’m on my snowboard or snowmobile.  One day I’ll be able to do the splits on my yoga mat.  I like Python and Ruby; I’m still recovering from Java.  I’m a University of Washington Computer Engineering alum.  And what really gets me going is seeing the software I make used by others.  One day I’ll make something that will make people happier, which is really my ultimate dream.

One of the Google APM scavenger items was to get cuffed by a police officer. I was going to respond with a funnier made-up story, but I thought I would just tell the truth.
